Filigree Cross

Filigree Cross
$11.98
A cross of dense, curling filigree scrolls and tiny florets radiating from an open ring at the centre. To use, lay the mat on a freshly rolled slab of clay, place a flat board or object on top and press down so the mat grips the clay and won't shift, then roll firmly over the mat to emboss the pattern. Gently peel the mat away to reveal the design. Avoid stretching the mat or using sharp tools on it, as this can cause it to tear.

Roll It onto a SlabLay the mat on a slab and roll over it once with a rolling pin or roller. Peel it back and the whole pattern is there, edge to edge.

Texture Curved FormsThe foam bends, so it follows a drape or slump form and textures the curve itself, not just a flat slab you shape afterwards.

Inside Press MoldsLine a press mold with the mat before you press the clay in. The piece comes out shaped and patterned in one step.
How to use
Start with an Even SlabRoll the slab to an even thickness first. The mat picks up the clay surface as it is, so dips in the slab show up as faint patches in the pattern.
Press It Down FirstLay the mat on the slab, set a flat board on top and press down evenly. This settles the foam into the clay so it holds still while you roll.
One Firm PassLift the board off, then roll over the mat once with steady, even pressure. Going back and forth can shift the foam and double the pattern.
Peel from a CornerLift the mat from one corner and peel it back slowly. Pulling it straight up can drag the clay and soften the edges of the design.
Let It BendOn molds and forms, smooth the mat into the curve with your palm before pressing the clay, so it sits flat against the surface everywhere.
Rinse and Dry FlatRinse off clay with water and a soft brush, then let the mat dry flat. Store it flat and away from heat, so the foam keeps its shape.
